Political Games

Once again members of the House of Representatives are wasting their time, and our money, playing pointless political games rather than tending to the real needs of the country. By pointless political games, I mean the ridiculous impeachment inquiry. Anyone with any brains knows it is just an effort to get even with the Democrats for the impeachment of Trump and has no basis in fact. Its pathetic. And holding up more funding for Ukraine is beyond pathetic. That is just disgusting.

Meanwhile, citizen Trump and his cronies are leading MAGA Republicans down the road to tyranny, like sheep to the slaughter. My ancestors were all in America before the Revolution, which some fought in. One died. Some were in Indiana before statehood, and all were here before 1845. My great-grandfather was with Sherman on his march to the sea in 1864. My father was with an anti-aircraft battery in France a few days after D-day. I served as an officer in the Navy in the Pacific during the Vietnam era. Like countless others, we were all proud to serve our country. Now a swindling, philandering, habitually lying excuse for a human being is determined to destroy our democracy. And instead of calling him out for what he is and fighting him, the Republican party is accomplishing nothing useful. They are just playing his game. They will go down in history as feckless fools who failed their country and their fellow citizens. Please ask your member of Congress to demonstrate that they are better than the rest. Urge them to stand up for what is right!

MAGA

MAGA—“Make America Great Again”? America is great . . . not perfect, but great. For over two hundred years it has been a beacon of democracy. Why do you think we have such problems on the border? People the world over know America is great. Millions want to get in. But the MAGA Republicans have made it clear that they wish to destroy all the things that make America great. And if they succeed in reelecting that lying, braying jackass Donald Trump, they will succeed.

Projection

After lying, former President Trump’s greatest talent is projection. You can be sure that anything he accuses others of doing, he has himself done, and usually to a far greater degree.

On Banning Books

Banning books from schools and libraries is denying others the right and opportunity to read them. This is undemocratic. This is authoritarian. Books make you think. Whether you agree or disagree with what they say, they encourage thought. And without thought, we are little better than our animal forebearers. We need books. They exercise our minds. And the more divergent their viewpoints the better.

Why Republicans Are Attacking the Schools

Knowledge is power.
The surest road to socioeconomic advancement is through more education.
The ignorant are more easily controlled.
Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it.
So of course Republicans want to restrict what our children are taught.
"Woke" means being in a state of awareness or alertness.
They would rather people be asleep . . especially to the dangers of their doctrines.

Against "Originalism"

At least some of the current conservative members of the Supreme Court are advocates of the principle of "originalism," which holds that all statements in the document must be interpreted as they would have been when it was adopted. Yet Article V of the Constitution spells out the process for making amendments to the document. This, it seems to me, makes it very clear that those who drafted the Constitution understood that, over time, changes would be necessary in order to keep the document in tune with changes in society. That article was, in fact, first applied with the adoption of the Bill of Rights on 15 December 1791, a little over three years after the Constitution's ratification. In view of this acknowledgement of the need for change, it seems highly unlikely that the framers would have insisted on adherence to the original interpretation of the wording. In other words, I believe there are strong reasons to believe the originalists are wrong.

On Republicans and the Vaccines

I see that far more Republicans than Democrats are refusing to get the Covid vaccines.  So, natural selection will do its thing, and the next election will see proportionately fewer Republicans.  They're really doing the Democrats a favor.  I suspect it will also raise the average IQ of the population a bit as well.
